Wedding place cards—on napkins?

Place cards are an important part of a wedding, but you can make them even more special by printing the names on napkins and placing them on the table. With the help of our napkin designer, you can create your own place-card napkins. In this post, we’ll show you step by step how to do it.

Planting Card - The First Step in Napkin Design: Decide on the Fold

First, you need to decide how you're going to fold the napkin. You basically have four options:

  1. You don't fold the napkin—an example of this is the pattern named "Pál Varga" in the gallery above.
  2. You don't fold the napkin, but you do rotate it 45°, as shown, for example, in the designs labeled "Pál Nagy" and "Mária Kiss" in the gallery above.
  3. Fold the napkin into a triangle—we'll go into more detail about this a little further down.
  4. Fold them into a sail shape, and when placed on the table, the napkins will be visible—we’ll write more about this a little further down.

Planting Card Napkin - Folded into a Triangle

As shown in the attached photo, you need to rotate the napkin 45 degrees and fold it in half along the vertical diagonal.

With a little care, this can be done in the napkin designer. When designing, there are only two things to keep in mind:

  1. The shapes and text placed on the image must be rotated by 45°.
  2. All shapes and text can appear only on one side of the imaginary diagonal.

The image below shows an example. We added the diagonal line to make it easier to understand; it does not appear in the design.

When folding into a triangle, it doesn't matter whether the picture is placed in the lower right or lower left corner of the napkin—the result will be similar.

Planting Card Napkin - Sail in the Wind

The sail fold is a method of folding napkins that makes it easy to set them up. You can design either two identical or two different patterns for the visible part of the folded napkin. Essentially, designing a napkin folded using the sail fold is like designing two napkins folded into triangles.

When sailing, keep the following in mind:

  1. You must select double-sided printing—where each side must be designed separately
  2. Arrange the two designs on the napkin based on the screenshots below

We added the diagonal lines to make it easier to understand; they don't appear in the design file.

1. oldal: For a sail-folded napkin, the first side must be designed so that the pattern on the napkin JOBB It should be in the lower corner and should not overlap the marked diagonal line. Text and images must be rotated 45° so that the image is "read" from the diagonal line toward the corner.

Once we're done with the first page, we need to move on to the second page of the plan.

Page 2: The second page should be designed so that the content aligns with the layout BAL It should be in the lower corner and should not extend onto the marked diagonal. The text and images must be rotated 45° so that the image is "read" from the diagonal toward the corner.

Place Cards on Napkins—How Do We Write the Names?

After we've designed the first napkin, here's what we need to do next:

  1. It's a good idea to save the design by clicking the "Save to Mydesigns" link.
  2. In the "Product" menu, specify how many items of this name are needed (If two people have the same name, simply adjust the quantity; otherwise, by default, we produce one item at a time).
  3. Place 1 napkin in the basket.

After adding the item to your cart, you should select the "Launch new product" option in the pop-up window.

In the next window, the system will display all of our company's products (basic napkins), but the exact product you used to create your first design is already selected with a green checkmark; do not change this.

Next, let's rewrite the name as follows:

  1. Click on the text block containing the name
  2. Click the "Edit Text" icon, then rewrite the text in the pop-up window
  3. Click the "Refresh Text" button

Once you've done that, you'll need to select how many of this name to order—as many as the number of guests with that name we're expecting. Then add the second name to your cart as well.

After adding an item to the cart, select the same napkin again, edit the name, set the quantity, and add it to the cart. Repeat these steps until all the names have been added to the cart.

One more thing to keep in mind: If you're using a sailfold (i.e., a two-sided card), you'll need to write the name on both sides, if it's included!

How to Make Planting Card Napkins Faster

We know that creating a place mat like this takes a lot of time and attention to detail. If you’ve outsourced the work to a graphic designer, you don’t need to work on it individually in the design software; you can send the order and the graphic files separately to info@fols.hu.

What do we expect from you in this case?

  • 1 PDF file containing all the napkins listed one below the other
  • The size of the graphic design is 20x20 cm or 19x19 cm—for weddings, by the way, we primarily recommend the textile-look napkin, which measures 20x20 cm.
  • For double-sided napkins, the PDF should include the front of the first napkin on the first page, the back on the second page, the front of the second napkin on the third page, the back on the fourth page, and so on.
  • You don't need a print-quality PDF—the higher the resolution, the better the result will be.

Once you have the graphic design files, send us an email and place your order there.

Design your own napkin!

Important: You can order a minimum of 25 custom napkins at a time (these can be 25 different designs). You must pay for the custom napkins in advance (by credit card or bank transfer).
