At the end of May, Children’s Day rolls around again—a day every young child eagerly awaits. It’s a day spent with family and friends—a day that’s all about play and fun. On this day, themed events are held, and children can attend concerts, play games, and watch circus performances; friends gather to have a carefree time together.

Children’s Day originated in Turkey, and we have been celebrating it for more than 120 years. In Hungary, Children’s Day was first celebrated in 1931, although at that time it lasted for a whole week. In 1954, the UN General Assembly proposed an official Universal Children’s Day, with the goal of allowing children around the world to commemorate mutual understanding, fraternity, and the struggle for children’s well-being on a designated day. Later, it was recommended that national governments designate a day that would be suitable for celebrating the occasion.

In Hungary, we celebrate it on the last Sunday in May.

The goal of Children’s Day is for the little ones to have a good time, to be the center of attention on this day, play carefree with their friends and family, and enjoy the various themed programs available throughout the country.

If you’re not attending a city event but are instead organizing a get-together for your kids and their friends, spruce up the party with custom napkins.
